Navy Women’s Basketball Open 2018-19 Season with Home Win

The Naval Academy Women Midshipmen basketball team hosted the Catholic University Cardinals tonight in the season opener. The two teams have not faced each other since 1990.

Why? Perhaps due to conference changes. Today, Navy is D1 Patriot League Conference while Catholic is D3 Landmark Conference (with Elizabethtown, Goucher, Juniata, to name a few).

Tonight’s game ended with a Navy win, 81-36.

Let’s take a look between the Midshipmen and Cardinals:

.Navy          Cardinals
FG%       41%                 20%
3FG%     35%                 17%
FT%        71%                60%
TO           19                   30

Navy’s bench scored 44 points, versus Catholic’s 18, and Navy scored 30 points off of Catholic’s turnovers (Catholic scored 5 from Navy turnovers).

Throughout the game, Navy’s starter freshman Jennifer Coleman was a key player. She ended the game with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Fellow freshman Kolbi Green ended the night with 17 points. Out of the fifteen players, ten are freshmen/sophomores. With games such as Coleman had, the Navy women’s basketball will proficient and successful this season.

Next home game is Sunday November 11, 2pm, hosting the Marist Red Fox. Click here for tickets
