Navy QB Perry Olsen Has Entered The Transfer Portal

Sophomore quarterback Perry Olsen has confirmed that he has entered the transfer portal and will be leaving the Naval Academy. He will have three years of eligibility remaining. A lot of Navy fans were surprised when Dalen Morris was announced as the starting quarterback for the season opener. Olsen was the backup to Malcolm Perry last season and the presumed starter for 2020. When Offensive Coordinator Ivan Jasper announced the starter back in August he was asked what happened with Olsen. Jasper said ” I didn’t see Perry getting better as the season went along. I didn’t see Perry take himself to another level.”

Navy runs two offensive huddles in practice to give the second string just as many reps as the first team. Jasper was surprised that Olsen hadn’t distanced himself from the other backups during practices last season. This opinion was confirmed by the player in a preseason interview. He told The Capital newspaper ” I don’t think I progressed any physically. If anything I deteriorated.” Coach Jasper didn’t name a starter for the Tulane game in a Thursday Zoom call. He said he would be evaluating the position during practice the next week plus.

Olsen’s transfer means sophomore Massai Maynor should be the backup to Morris. Junior Tyger Goslin and a pair of freshman round out the depth chart. Things just got a lot more interesting in Annapolis.
