Navy Midshipmen at American University Eagles for Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship

Tomorrow, March 11, 2018, is the third time the two teams will have met in 2017-2018. The teams are split, one each, but this Patriot League championship is once again all about revenge.

In the 2017 Patriot League semifinals, the two teams went head-to-head. Navy came out on top, 60-44, to advance to the finals versus Bucknell Bison.

Last year in the semifinals, American outshot Navy within the arc (42 versus Navy’s 32). This year, has been a completely different story. In Navy’s 60-44 win on Feb 28, 2018, Navy dominated the court making 18-32 from within the arc, and 13-30 beyond the arc (Taylor Dunham was 7-13 for three’s), while American struggled 12-37 within, and 7-22 beyond. Then a month prior to, on the January 5 game, American narrowly escaped Navy 46-41. Across the board the teams were similar in field goal opportunities, yet it all came down to free-throws; American went 12-17 while Navy went 6-6.

With the similarities in shooting capability and seizing the opportunities, it all comes down to Navy’s defense, and Dunham shooting her 3’s, while remaining cool, calm, and collected, as the away team.

The game will be at 11am, and can be watched on Patriot League Network.
