Navy Football Prepares to Take on ECU

The final push for a bowl game continues this Saturday as Navy stays at home to take on the Pirates of ECU (2-8). ECU is struggling on the year, but comes into the matchup off of a 22-7 win against FAU last week. Navy doesn’t play FAU this season but the Owls are currently 5th place in American Athletic Conference standings and have shown to be a solid team this year.

Speaking of rankings, ECU currently sits dead last in the AAC with a 1-5 record in conference play. That shouldn’t be too much of a confidence booster for Navy however as they lost to Temple just two weeks ago who ranks second to last in the conference also with a 1-5 record in conference play.

ECU managed to pick up the win last week by hitting 5 field goals while holding FAU to just one touchdown. The game was a defensive slugfest with just 407 total yards between both teams. The Pirates held the Owls to just 172 yards of total offense including just 31 rushing yards on the day. That has to be concerning for Navy heading into the matchup.

The strength of this pirate team is their defense, who are allowing an average of just 114 rushing yards per game. ECU ranks 23rd nationally in opponent rushing yards per attempt at 3.4, as well as 8th nationally over the last 3 games with just 2.8 opponent rushing yards per attempt.

The triple option of Navy will be tested in this game and the stakes are certainly high as the Midshipmen look to keep their postseason hopes alive this Saturday.
