Navy Football Falls to USF 44-30

Navy Football lost their third game of the season on Saturday when they fell to USF 44-30. Much like the Midshipmen’s loss at Memphis, this was a very winnable game. Ultimately, self inflicted mistakes were Navy’s downfall.

Navy has shown to be one of the most disciplined teams in the country, but on Saturday they committed eight penalties for 70 yards. They also had a botched snap on the first play of the fourth quarter that resulted in a USF touchdown.

Then there was the botched snap on an extra point attempt that went the other way, resulting in USF going up three instead of entering halftime tied.

Head coach Brian Newberry summed it up stating “At the end of the day, our margin for error is small. We can’t beat ourselves. I thought we did that today, and that’s not taking anything away from USF.”

There were positives for Navy to take away- they showed a lot of explosiveness and creativity on offense. They were able to force turnovers defensively. But at the end of the day, there were too many mistakes to win this game.

Navy stays home to take on North Texas this Saturday.
