Nats Almost No-Hit by Blake Snell

The Nationals lost the first of two to the Rays tonight. The Nats lost 11-0 and were only able to salvage two hits on an Anthony Rendon double and a Juan Soto single. Blake Snell, who had 10 strikeouts tonight, got his 10th win of the season. He also no-hit the Nationals through 6 innings before giving up a double to Rendon. The losing pitcher was Gio Gonzalez, who gave up 6 runs, with 4 coming off a Kevin Kiermaier grand slam in the second inning. This is Gio’s 5th loss of the season. The Nats have their 36th loss of the season as a result of tonight’s game.

The Nats also gave up four more runs, as Wilson Ramos was able to get three of those for the Rays after hitting two homers against his former team.

With the loss, the Nationals are now 4 games back on the Braves in the NL East. Since last Monday, the Nats have won only four games. If they are still looking to contend for the playoffs, they are going to need a spark.

Snell had a fantastic night for the Rays, and he showed it by getting 10 strikeouts for Tampa Bay, and was able to keep Nats players looking, or was able to get them to whiff on some of his nastiest stuff.
