The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros, 6-4, Sunday afternoon in West Palm Beach. With the win, the Nationals improve to 8-7 this spring, while the Astros drop to 8-7.

Jeremy Hellickson delivered four strong innings for Washington, allowing only three hits and one walk. Kyle Barraclough struck out two Astros in his one inning of relief. Unfortunately, Jimmy Cordero didn’t fair as well, giving up four hits and three earned runs in his single inning of action. Trevor Rosenthal earned the save.

Offensively, the Nationals’ Luis Garcia, SS, had three hits and drove in two runs. Wilmer Difo, 3B, added two hits and one RBI to Washington’s strong afternoon.

Despite falling behind 6-0 going into their home seventh, Houston fought back late. Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez and Abraham Toro were all late subs who produced all four of the Astros’ runs. On the mound, Wade Miley had a rough start, giving up four hits and two earned runs in his 3.2 innings pitched.

Washington faces the St. Louis Cardinals Monday afternoon, while Houston takes on the New York Mets on March 11th.
