Nationals sign Jon Lester

Per Jeff Passan the Washington Nationals are signing five time all star Jon Lester to a one year deal. Lester will be joining former teammate Kyle Schwarber and former assistant manager Dave Martinez in DC.

Moneywise, the deal is worth five million dollars, two of which will be paid this year, and the rest in deferred money which will go to Lester in 2023. Lester will actually be making twice as much from his Cubs buyout than the Nationals contract.

Lester is up to 37 years old and has pitched an arguably hall of fame career. Lester is a five-time all-star, three-time world champion and was the NL wins leader back in 2018.

Lester has the potential to become a great end of the rotation pitcher if he can come back from some struggles last season. Lester finished last year with an ERA of 5.16 but was able to get better as the season went on as he accumulated an ERA of 1.06 during three of his last four starts.
