It’s Scherzer Day.
Max Scherzer (16-6, 2.22 ERA) will be going for his 17th win of the season as the Cardinals visit Nationals Park today. Already leading the majors in strikeouts, Scherzer will be looking to pass the 250 K mark for the fifth straight season.
Jack Flaherty (8-6, 2.87 ERA) will take the mound for St. Louis. A strong Rookie of the Year candidate, Flaherty was 4-0 in August allowing only 14 hits in just over 32 innings.
At this point, the Nationals are playing for pride. The season may not have turned out as Nats’ fans had hoped, but there is still a lot of baseball to be enjoyed, especially on Scherzer Day.
