Returning home, the Nationals send their ace, Max Scherzer (17-7, 2.53 ERA), to the mound tonight. After a rare rough start last time out, Scherzer will be looking for at least seven strikeouts against the Mets to match his career-high 284 Ks in a season. Knowing Scherzer, he’ll be looking for a lot more than seven.
The Mets give the ball to Jason Vargas (6-9, 6.47 ERA). The leftie is 4-2 in his last seven games, allowing 14 ER and 30 hits in that stretch.
