MSB Staff Super Bowl Predictions

Super Bowl 58 is upon us as the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs get set to take on the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Chiefs enter the contest with a final regular season record of 11-6, winners of the AFC west, and were the three seed entering the AFC playoffs. While the 49ers were the clear cut favorites in the NFC all season finishing the regular season with a 12-5 record, wining the NFC west, and claiming the one seed in the NFC playoffs.

The Chiefs are looking to join elite company as they look to become the ninth team to win back-to-back Super Bowls and the first team to do it since the New England Patriots won their second Super Bowl in the row in 2004. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is also on the verge of joining an exclusive group as a third Super Bowl victory would make him just the fifth quarterback in history to have at least three Super Bowl victories. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid would also become the fifth head coach to win three Super Bowls joining Bill Belichick, Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh, and Joe Gibbs.

As for the 49ers they will look to tie the New England Patriots for most Super Bowls by a franchise in NFL history with a win on Sunday. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is also looking to become the third Mr. Irrelevant to win a Super Bowl as 1994 Mr. Irrelevant linebacker Mart Moore won the Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2001, while 2009 Mr. Irrelevant kicker Ryan Succop won the Super Bowl in 2020 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and running back Christian McCaffery will look join their fathers in winning a Super Bowl. Kyle’s father Mike Shanahan was the head coach for the Denver Broncos and helped lead Christian McCaffery’s father, Ed McCaffrey to two Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998.

The 49ers are favored in the game -1.5, while the over/under for total points sits at 47.5.

The staff here a MSB is here to provide you with our predictions for the big game.

Jarrett Pfeifer– Baltimore Ravens
49ers 34-Chiefs 27
Its hard to go against the team that has seemingly been there every season since 2019. But the 49ers have been the best team in the NFL for most of the season which makes me lean that way more.

I expect the 49ers to do what the Ravens didn’t and thats take advantage of a poor Chiefs rushing defense. The greatness of Patrick Mahomes will keep the Chiefs in it, but this year is the 49ers year.
Eric Arnold– Maryland Terrapins
49ers 31-Chiefs 30
Every part of my logical brain is screaming to predict Kansas City winning. They have all the elements you want before entering a game. They are playing their best football at the end of the year, they are defensively dominating teams like we haven’t seen before, they have the quarterback that MIGHT surpass Tom Brady as the greatest of all time, and they have whatever sorcery/conspiracy theories that Taylor Swift brings to the game….but….I believe Christian McCaffrey is going to run amuck all over the field. So, I’m taking San Francisco.

Both teams rely heavily on playing with the lead and I suspect both teams will prefer to start the game with the ball in their hands to dictate the pace of the game and allow their defenses to pressure each team’s quarterback. As close as this game is, I imagine even the coin toss will be important.

I expect both George Kittle and Travis Kelce to have great games and be the “Go To” options when needed, especially on third down. However, I expect Christian McCaffrey to run away from the Kansas City defense and the MVP trophy. 49ers win a close one
Joshua (Captain)– Sports Business, Sports Aesthetics, Breaking News
49ers 38-Chiefs 32
The Super Bowl will all come down to who has the ball last.
James Judson– Towson Tigers FootballN/AI hope both teams lose!!
Blair Critchell– Washington Capital
49ers 27-Chiefs 24
MVP will be Christian McCaffrey
Casey Moninghoff– Mount St. Mary’s/Maryland Sports Betting
49ers 30-Chiefs 20
t’s tough, I think Kelce gets his and Pacheco gets his and Butker is always good for 3 so you’re at 17

It’s basically how can the San Fran contain the rest of the game. Does Kelce have a historic game and get 2-3 scores? Or do the Niners establish a run game, hit some nice pass plays with kittle, Deebo, and ayuik and then get CMC 2-3 scores and ice it?

I think they do, just based on the defenses and how they can adjust and I think the D line of San Fran is a bit too much. They’ll force a turnover or 2.

CMC or a defensive player win MVP
Matt Bachota– Washington Capitals/Baltimore Ravens/Baltimore Orioles/Maryland Terps/ Hershey Bears
49ers 27-Chiefs 23
Both CMC and Pacheco run for over 100 yards and a score.

CMC is the MVP
Sam Windler– Baltimore Ravens/ Maryland Terps Football
49ers 30-Chiefs 27
My bold prediction is aiyuk first touchdown. I think the game will be slow at first then turn into a bit of a shootout once the offenses get going.

It will come down to final possession on a niners field goal.
Dewayne Vannoy– NFL/Baltimore Ravens
49ers 30-Chiefs 19
Kyle Shanahan is a mastermind of the game. He will look to exploit the 27th Rank rush defense of the Chiefs. Kyle will put the ball in the best offensive weapon (Christian McCaffery) hands to win the game. McCaffery will have over 90 yards rushing and 2 Touchdowns.
