MSB.com’s Gold-Star HS & College Athletes Of The Week

Here are this week’s male and female high school and college “Gold-Star Athletes” for the week ending Saturday, November 4th, 2017.

MSB.com’s GOLD-STAR MALE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Gilman Greyhounds Football Team – Pulling off the biggest upset in Maryland high school football for 2017, the Gilman Greyhounds scored 17 early points and then held on an offensive attack by the #4 ranked McDonogh Eagles, 27-24, in the 102nd overall meeting between the two teams.

For the Greyhounds (4-6; 3-3 MIAA), the victory garnered them a playoff spot next week in the conference semi-finals that will be played at Essex CCBC against the #2 seed Calvert Hall Cardinals.  The Eagles (6-4; 3-3 MIAA) will be in the other conference semi-final game against #1 seed St. Frances (10-0; 6-0 MIAA).

MSB.com’s GOLD-STAR FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Howard Lions Senior Anna Jezerski – In a sweep against the Catonsville Comets in the sectional first round of the Maryland Girls Volleyball Tournament, Jezerski helped her team by having a match-high 13 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, only committing two errors in the entire match and had six service aces as the Comets advanced with a 25-10; 25-10; 25-14 drilling of the Comets.

MSB.com’s GOLD-STAR MALE COLLEGE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Bowie State Bulldogs Red-Shirt Senior RB Robert Chesson – Only one week after Bulldogs teammate, Junior QB Amir Hill, was awarded the gold-star college male athlete of the week as he threw six touchdown passes against Lincoln University, Chesson out-did him by rushing for 304 yards and scoring on SEVEN rushing touchdowns as Bowie State thumped Elizabeth City State University, 77-21, Saturday afternoon in Elizabeth City, NC.

For the Bulldogs, they have now scored a total of 163 points in their last two games combined!

MSB.com’s GOLD-STAR FEMALE COLLEGE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Stevenson Mustangs Women’s Volleyball Team – For a sixth consecutive year, the Stevenson Mustangs won the Middle Athletic Conference Commonwealth Women’s Volleyball Championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament by defeating the Arcadia Knights, three sets to one, Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gym in Owings Mills, Maryland.

It was also the Mustangs 20th consecutive match win this year and they enter the tournament with an astounding 32-1 record.
