Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis defeated Dickinson College 5-2 in a hidden dual during the first day of the McClure Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland. Loyola hosted the invitational. Mount St. Mary’s swept all three doubles matches and added four singles victories.
Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis sweeps doubles
Alexi Roy and Stefanos Pournaropoulos opened the doubles competition with a 6-3 victory over Lucas Bogle and Antonis Malavazos. Ryan Wagner and Antoine Martel followed with a 7-6 (7-5) win over David Daraban and Nikhil Narsi.
Federico Strocchi and Akarsh Gaonkar completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory over Kabir Jaitly and Sandro Buskhrikidze. Wagner, Martel and Gaonkar each won both their doubles and singles matches.
Mount St. Mary’s University adds four singles wins
Wagner defeated Jaitly 6-0, 6-3, while Martel beat Bogle 6-2, 6-2. Gaonkar defeated Buskhrikidze 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), winning the second-set tiebreaker.
Nick Makris also won for Mount St. Mary’s University, defeating Daraban 6-4, 6-2. Dickinson College earned its two points from Antonis Malavazos, who defeated Strocchi 6-4, 6-4, and Nikhil Narsi, who beat Nate Helms 6-1, 2-6 (11-9).
McClure Invitational continues
The second day of the McClure Invitational was scheduled for Saturday, September 19. Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis entered that portion of the event after earning a 5-2 victory over Dickinson College.
