Morgan State hosted Towson in The Battle for Greater Baltimore where Towson would win 20-10. The Tigers earned their first win of the season and the loss would be the second for Morgan leaving both teams 1-2.

The Morgan State offense struggled mighty this game. The Bears were led by third-string quarterback Deuce Taylor who would go 9/24 for 96 yards and 3 interceptions. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Taylor was benched. Two drives after his benching the Bears would put up their first and only points of the game on offense via a 29-yard Beckett Leary field goal. Morgan strayed away from the ground game and it showed. Multiple rushers averaging around four yards per carry but the leading rusher was J.J. Davis with 27 yards.

The Morgan Defense did a good job of keeping the Tiger’s offensive at bay. They would only allow 20 points and had two blocked field goals that kept it from being 26-10. One of those blocked Field goals was turned into a 53-yard TD return by DB Jordan Toles. Grad defensive back Jae’Veyon Morton would get the only turnover of the game for Morgan his second interception of the year.

The Towson offense was a balanced one. They were able to set the tone up front bullying Morgan’s defensive line. This would open lanes for running backs Try Greene Jr. and D’Ago Hunter to both eclipse 50 yards on 11 attempts each. Quarterback Nathan Kent got the job done, passing for 168 yards, a touchdown, and one interception. The leading receiver for Towson was James Da’Kenda, who had six catches, 53 yards, and a touchdown.

Grad. defensive lineman Jesus Gibbs came to play this game leading the Tigers in tackles with six, 2.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Grad. cornerback Javier Roberts also put on a show as he had two interceptions and four pass breakups. Redshirt junior corner Dorian Davis had an interception as well. This defensive output from the Tigers held the Bear’s offense to only three points.

With both teams now at 1-2, they both look to get back to 500. Towson has another MEAC opponent this Saturday as Norfolk State comes to town. Morgan State has to prepare to host University of Albany this Saturday.
