Morgan State Football 2017 Recap

After a challenging year for head coach Fred Farrier’s football team, a few of his players gave him something to hang his hat on.

Although the Morgan State football team finished the 2017 season at 1-10, four student athletes were recognized for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Conference honors.

In his junior year, defensive end Malachi Washington earned a Second Team All-Conference award while his fellow juniors, Carl Gaines, a defensive back and Brandon Jones, a tight-end, were rewarded with the Third Team All-Conference achievement. Linebacker Rico Kennedy, a sophomore, also made Third Team All-Conference.

These young men provided the team and staff with a trace of silver lining on a difficult campaign. Also worth mentioning is a total of nine players were named to the MEAC 2017 All-Academic Team, putting an exclamation point on the term ‘student-athlete’. The seniors who won were DuShon David and Cravon Rogers. The juniors who were recognized include Cooper Clarkin, Adrien Allen, Johnathon Honeycutt, Mike Lynn, Alex Reya and Deontaye White. The lone freshman who earned the award was David Adeleke.

With a roster filled with mostly underclassmen and with the four All-Conference winners coming back, coach Farrier hopes to develop an improved and motivated team to yield more favorable results next season.
