The McDaniel College women’s soccer team lost its first Centennial Conference contest of the season Wednesday, falling 3-0 to Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland. Johns Hopkins led 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice in the second half.
Johns Hopkins Takes Control
Addi Dauler opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with her second goal of the season. Inara Inesi and Katie Derby assisted on the goal, which gave Johns Hopkins a 1-0 lead that held through halftime.
Gwen Rauvola scored Johns Hopkins’ second goal in the second half, and Katie Derby added the final goal with an assist from Ella Kruntchev. Johns Hopkins finished with a 21-6 advantage in shots and led 4-2 in corner kicks.
Johns Hopkins also held an 11-1 edge in shots on goal and recorded its fourth consecutive shutout over McDaniel at home.
McDaniel Generates Second-Half Chances
McDaniel sophomore Alaina Miller had two scoring chances early in the second half. Ella Kruntchev stopped Miller’s one-on-one opportunity in the 53rd minute, and Miller sent a shot from the right side of the box wide of the far post in the 55th minute.
McDaniel produced its strongest attacking sequence during a five-minute stretch in the second half, generating three shots and a corner kick. The Green Terror finished with six shots overall, while goalkeeper Sierra Ruehl made eight saves, including five in the first half.
Ranked Centennial Conference Matchup
McDaniel entered the match with a 4-2-2 overall record and a 1-1 Centennial Conference mark. Johns Hopkins entered at 5-1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The teams were ranked among the top four in the Intercollegiate Women’s Soccer Organization for Coaches Region V rankings. McDaniel was fourth, while Johns Hopkins was third.
McDaniel is scheduled to travel to Ursinus on Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff against the Bears. The Green Terror will seek its first road win in five attempts this season.

The 21-6 shot margin and 11-1 advantage in shots on goal reflected Johns Hopkins’ control of the match, while Ruehl’s eight saves kept McDaniel within reach before the Blue Jays pulled away.
McDaniel’s next opportunity comes Saturday at Ursinus after the Green Terror suffered its first Centennial Conference loss of the season.
