McDaniel College women’s field hockey team fell 2-1 at Bridgewater (Va.) on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Jopson Athletic Complex. Summer Gregory scored for the second consecutive game, but Emily Dickinson’s rebound goal with less than four minutes remaining gave Bridgewater the win.
McDaniel College dropped to 1-4, while Bridgewater (Va.) improved to 4-1. The game marked the first meeting between the schools since Sept. 11, 2018, and evened the series at three victories apiece.
Summer Gregory Answers Bridgewater’s Opening Goal
Bridgewater (Va.) opened the scoring with 4:47 remaining in the first quarter. Gregory tied the game 34 seconds later, giving McDaniel College a 1-1 score at the end of the period.
The goal was Gregory’s second of the season and fifth of her career. It also marked her second consecutive game with a goal.
Bridgewater Decides One-Goal Game Late
Bridgewater held a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in penalty corners during the opening quarter. Each team recorded one shot in the second period, leaving the game tied at halftime.
McDaniel College held a 5-1 shot advantage and a 4-1 edge in penalty corners during the third quarter. Thaleia Khader stopped all five shots she faced in the period, and the teams entered the final quarter tied 1-1.
Emily Dickinson scored the game-winning goal on a rebound after McDaniel College goalkeeper Lora Scarangello saved Dickinson’s initial shot with less than four minutes remaining. Scarangello finished with five saves, while Khader made seven saves for Bridgewater (Va.).
Bridgewater held a 13-11 advantage in shots, while McDaniel College led 7-6 in penalty corners. The game was McDaniel College’s third one-goal decision among its first five games of the season.
McDaniel College Women’s Field Hockey Returns Home
McDaniel College will host Wilkes in a non-conference game Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Gill Stadium. The game will be the Green Terror’s next contest following the one-goal loss at Bridgewater (Va.).
