McDaniel College Men’s Soccer Team Falls 3-0 to Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field

The McDaniel College men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland, in a Centennial Conference contest. Johns Hopkins scored three unanswered goals over a 20-minute span in the second half.

McDaniel College dropped to 6-2-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Green Terror started the season unbeaten through its first seven games before losing two straight conference matches.

Johns Hopkins Breaks Through in the Second Half

The teams were scoreless through the first 53 minutes. Johns Hopkins took the lead when Connor Wilkes scored on a penalty kick after a McDaniel foul in the box.

Gabriel Pirayou doubled the Blue Jays’ lead in the 67th minute, assisted by Rohan Aggarwal and Brendan Listzwan. Johns Hopkins capped the scoring in the 76th minute on an own goal.

McDaniel Finishes With 11 Shots in Loss

Johns Hopkins held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the second half and scored three goals on seven shots on goal. McDaniel finished with 11 shots overall and had three on target.

First-year goalkeeper Gavin Yartymyk made eight saves, including five in the second half. Junior Jacob Hicks led McDaniel with three shots, while nine players recorded at least one attempt.

Johns Hopkins improved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Blue Jays held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The result continued a challenging conference stretch for the McDaniel College men’s soccer team after its unbeaten start. McDaniel returns home Saturday to host Swarthmore at 3 p.m. at the Soccer Complex.
