McDaniel College men’s soccer opened Centennial Conference play with a 2-1 win over Washington College on Sept. 19, 2026, at the Soccer Complex in Westminster, Maryland. Nicholas Clarke and Charlie Olson scored for McDaniel College, which remained unbeaten through six games and improved to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Washington College fell to 1-2-4 overall and 0-1 in Centennial Conference play. McDaniel College also extended its unbeaten streak in the series to three games.
Nicholas Clarke Puts McDaniel College Ahead
The teams combined for seven shots in the opening half before McDaniel College broke through in the 31st minute. Nicholas Clarke scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, with junior Jack Guerrera recording the assist.
Guerrera picked up his sixth career point and his first of the season on the play. McDaniel College carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Washington College Pressures McDaniel College After Halftime
Washington College increased its pressure after the break and outshot McDaniel College 15-2 in the second half. Washington College hit the crossbar twice during the final 13 minutes, while first-year goalkeeper Gavin Yartymyk made three second-half saves.
Charlie Olson doubled McDaniel College’s lead on a 2-on-1 breakaway with Clarke. Washington College scored with 47 seconds remaining on its 18th and final shot of the game, but McDaniel College held on for the conference-opening victory.
McDaniel College Remains Unbeaten
McDaniel College remained unbeaten through five home games this season, improving to 15-4-3 at home over the last three seasons. The Green Terror also remained unbeaten in their last four conference openers, improving to 3-0-1 in those games.
Clarke and Olson have combined for 10 goals, five assists and 25 points through six games. Both players also have won a Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week award this season.
McDaniel College begins a three-game road trip Wednesday at Gwynedd Mercy, with a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Griffins.
