No.11 Maryland looking to be 5-0 against Towson
Maryland Women’s Basketball is currently 4-0, and everything is coming together so far. The Terps are in their non-conference schedule and won’t see a Big Ten opponent until December 7th, when they face Purdue. So, this Sunday, we have a matinee as Maryland welcomes Towson University. In this series matchup, they look to win their tenth straight win against the Tigers.
The Keys To Victory
The fourth game in ten days. Will we see the minutes balance?
This has been one of the toughest stretches to open the season. There has been a lot of basketball, especially with the time change, and everyone is still getting acclimated on the court. One would suppose Coach Frese gives the freshmen [Ava McKennie & Kyndal Walker] more minutes. Sophomore Emily Fisher could see court time as she hasn’t played since the Coppin State game. The rest include Mir Mclean, and Amari DeBerry could see playing time in this game as well.
Towson has yet to find its spark.
Building on a successful season last year, the Towson Lady Tigers won 20 games and were a basket away from winning the CAA Conference championship. However, the start of this season has not been so great for the Tigers, as they are 0-3, and two of those losses were one-sided and included a ranked opponent. There is a lot of potential and promise within the Tigers, led by head coach and former Maryland Terrapin Laura Harper, who can use these games to help with their youth and inexperience.
Nathan’s Notes:
Allie Kubek is a former student of Towson University. Last season, she scored 17 points against the Tigers.
Towson still lacks an identity. That’s not just on offense shooting below 40%; their assist-to-turnover ratio is something to forget through their first three games. Their Free throw shooting hasn’t helped either, less than 60%.
This Sunday is the 25th time Maryland and Towson face each other. Maryland is 19-5 all-time.
The game will be on the Big Ten Network Plus at 11:00am.
