Maryland vs. Syracuse Preview
The Terrapins are coming off a win over New Mexico on Saturday, 80-65, and gets set to take on Syracuse tomorrow in the Big Ten/ACC Tournament.
Maryland is 5-3 all-time against the Orange, even though Syracuse has won the last 3 games in the series. Tip-off is 7pm at the Carrier Dome.
This will be the third game in four days for the Terps. Maryland lost their first game of the season against St. Bonaventure in the Emerald Coast Classic, 63-61 in possibly one of the most disgusting games any Terp fan has ever sat through. Turnovers after turnovers, bad shot selection, anything bad that could’ve happened, happened for Maryland. More important than the loss however, as all teams have games like that, the Terrapins bounced back and took down New Mexico the next day. Things went a lot smoother for Maryland on both sides of the court. Cowan Jr. led the Terps again with 21 points, and Justin Jackson had a breakthrough game scoring 16.
Syracuse is 5-0 on the season. The Orange are led by sophomore guard, Tyus Battle who is averaging 20 points per contest. Frank Howard is the second leading scorer on the team with 15.8 ppg, and big man Oshae Brissett averages nearly a double double, 11.6 ppg and 9.2 rebounds. However, Battle injured his back in the win against Toledo and is listed as questionable for the game against Maryland. Another ‘best player injured’ situation for the Terps, but hopefully it ends up better than the St. Bonaventure contest.
This would be Maryland’s first signature win on the season. The Terps took down Butler and Bucknell earlier on, and a win over Syracuse helps the Terps out on Selection Sunday. It is also an away game, and Maryland is looking to pick up a nice road win over a tough non-conference opponent.
