Maryland Takes Care of Business against Ohio: Quick Hits

Maryland (8-3) beat the Ohio Bobcats at home Thursday night by a score of 87-62. They opened the game with a 15-2 run and never looked back. Michael Cekovsky paced Maryland with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. This was one of those games where Ceko’s potential was tantalizingly showcased for fans who know how good he can be sans injuries.

-Justin Jackson came off the bench because of an illness but put up 10 and 5 anyway

-Huerter and Cowan combined for 29 points and the Red Mamba was particularly on fire from 3, knocking down 4 from deep. He’s shooting a red hot 47.5% on 3s this year

-Sean Obi got in the game for the first time in a while and made his presence felt with 6 and 3 in only 5 minutes

-Bruno Fernando had a couple thunderous dunks but rolled his ankle in the second half. Turgeon said after the game that they were doing more tests but they think it’s a low ankle sprain, which should sideline him for a few games. He won’t be rushed back until at least more conference games

-The bench was emptied with over 2.5 minutes left, and they made the most of their opportunity, scoring 9 points

Maryland will look to extend its record to 9-3 this Saturday at home against 3-7 Gardner Webb. Tip is scheduled for 12:30.
