Maryland Lady Terps finish 2022 on a high note
The Maryland Terrapins women’s basketball finished 2022, on a high note by defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers 107-85. The Ladies from the beginning of the season have fought a narrative of how would this group of young women look together after a very interesting past offseason.
The Keys to Success
Minnesota gave the Terps a Scare in the 2nd Quarter
Coach Lindsey Whalen’s Golden Gophers have a bright future ahead of them, and most certainly have the talent. Maryland’s defense faulted a bit during a 12-0 run which is a huge confidence booster for a team that has struggled on the road. If you are Coach Whalen this is a small that can be taken from this game.
The Defense will be key against ranked opponents
Other than a forgetful 2nd quarter, the Terps pretty much for 3 quarters controlled the pace of the game with their defense. Minnesota committed 23 turnovers which led to 30 points those turnovers regardless of zone defense, press defense, etc. The Terps still have some things to clean up on the defensive side of the ball.
Keeping the turnovers down will be an X-Factor in the 2nd half against ranked opponents
Maryland turned the ball over six times against Minnesota, as the reader, I know what you are thinking. A nonconference opponent is not the same compared to playing some tough teams such as Iowa, Rutgers, etc. Keeping the turnovers down will be key to the success of the 2nd half-season. Getting easy shots, and creating shots for others will be key.
