Calvert Hall senior Kaden Omopariola won his second consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association individual cross country title and led Calvert Hall to its fifth consecutive A Conference team championship at Shawan Downs in Cockeysville.

Omopariola won in 15 minutes, 24.59 seconds, leading a Calvert Hall 1-2-3 finish. Senior teammates Ben Ghahhari finished second in 15:28.02, and J.D. Hughes placed third in 15:40.86.

Calvert Hall Wins Fifth Straight A Conference Championship

Calvert Hall finished with 17 points, while Gilman placed second with 59. The Cardinals claimed four of the top five spots in the team standings.

Omopariola committed to the University of Pittsburgh earlier Friday, the same day as the championship meet. He also considered UMBC, Charleston Souther, North Florida and St. Joseph’s.

“I definitely put in a lot of miles in, a lot of good sessions,” said Omopariola, who also considered UMBC, Charleston Souther, North Florida and St. Joseph’s. “All the little things that make you better like changing my sleep habits and diet.”

Calvert Hall coach Scott Baker credited Omopariola’s summer training and attention to detail for his improvement. “He’s done all the little things. He actually trained over the summer, and it’s made a big difference for him throughout the season,” Baker said. “That’s why he’s had such a big jump.”

McDonogh and Beth Tfiloh Win Other MIAA Championships

McDonogh won the MIAA B Conference championship, taking second through fourth place with Hank Sheehan, Noah Vandermeer and Sam Faloni. Park senior Jonah Cowan won the B Conference individual race in 16:51.19.

Annapolis Area Christian finished second with 86 points, while Park placed third with 98. Beth Tfiloh won its first MIAA championship in the C Conference with 48 points, led by sophomore individual champion Abraham Gross, who finished in 17:13.02.

Chapelgate Christian’s Dagim Said placed second in the C Conference race, followed by Indian Creek’s Dominic Craig, Chapelgate Christian’s Dylan Reising and Beth Tfiloh’s Samson Stein. Calvert Hall is scheduled to prepare for the Nike Southeast region meet next month in North Carolina.
