Maryland Black Bears defenseman Daniel Johnson has committed to play NCAA hockey for the University of New England and will join the Nor’Easters in the fall. The 5-foot-10, left-handed defenseman from Edgewood, Maryland, played three seasons in the North American Hockey League.
Johnson appeared in 45 regular-season games for the Maryland Black Bears this past year. He recorded two goals, 22 assists and 24 points while posting a plus-25 rating.

Johnson added four points in 10 postseason games, including one goal and three assists. He helped the Maryland Black Bears win the Robertson Cup title.
He was also named a Top Prospect for the annual Top Prospects Tournament. Johnson played for the East Division team and scored the game-winning goal for the divisional roster.
Johnson’s Career Path
Before joining the Maryland Black Bears, Johnson played two seasons with the Bismarck Bobcats. He appeared in 18 games for the Bobcats before the 2024-25 campaign and recorded two assists during his debut year.
Johnson then played two games for the Bismarck Bobcats during the 2024-25 season. He is one of 14 Maryland Black Bears players to make a college ice hockey commitment.
