Loyola Greyhounds Head to Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game

This evening, the Loyola University Greyhounds hosted Boston University Terriers for Game 1 of the Patriot League Semifinals.

What seemed as a sure win start, the Terriers were up 2-0 in the first three minutes of play. Boston did not allow Loyola to score until 2:58 left in the game. The goal was scored by Peter Swindell, assisted by local talent Pat Spencer.

The second quarter got off to a hot start, with the Terriers scoring within 41 seconds. Tack on another 41 seconds, which is when Loyola’s Spencer scored, unassisted, for his 29th goal of the season. The quarter was much like a tennis match; one team would score, the other would score twice, for the other team to score twice in a row, etc. Each team scored five teams in the second quarter. The last goal, Boston, came with four seconds left on the clock. At the half, 7-6 Boston.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that Loyola showed why they are number one in the league, and one of the best teams in competition at this level. Four Greyhounds came together to score one goal each, and the team worked hard defensively to hold Boston to eight shots; four saves by another local, Jacob Stover.

Last quarter of play, Loyola found the back of the net three times, while Stover let the Terriers get one past him. Final score: 13-8, Loyola.

The Kid, freshman Kevin Lindley had five goals, on five shots. In his post-game interview with CBSSN, he credited Spencer for leading the way, and making the shots possible.

In tonight’s game, Spencer had two goals, and three assists. With tonight’s game, Spencer is the record holder for two Patriot League categories. He now holds Most Career Points (253), and Career Assists (158). This year marks three-for-three, as in his three years of play he has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year.

Loyola will play, and host, the championship game on Sunday, at noon. They will play the winner of Lehigh Mountain Hawks/Navy Midshipmen.
