Local Lacrosse Recap

Lets start the recap at Homewood Field where #19 Johns Hopkins opened the Peter Milliman era with a 14-8 loss to #8 Ohio State. Tre Leclaire had 4 goals for the Buckeyes. Connor Desimone had 3 goals and 1 assist for Hopkins. Ohio State led 9-3 at the half. Hopkins goalie Josh Kirson had 13 saves against his former team.

In Towson #1 Duke beat Towson 19-7. Michael Sowers had two goals and 4 assists for the winners. The Blue Devils led 14-2 after 3 quarters and won 23 of 29 face-offs. The Tigers got two goals and one assist from James Avanzato in a losing effort. The Blue Devils are 3-0 while Towson falls to 1-2.

Navy opened their season with an 8-5 win over Mount St Mary’s in the only local game with fans in the stands. The Mids led 6-0 at the half largely due to the effectiveness of their ten made ride. The Mountaineers struggled to get the ball over midfield. They were 11 for 21 on clears. In the second half the Mount got their offense in gear as they outscored Navy 5-2. They won 11 of 18 face-offs as Navy struggled with violations. Jack Sweeney had two man up goals for the winners. Five different Mountaineers had a goal each. The Mount is 1-1.

At the Ridley Athletic Complex #3 Virginia beat #11 Loyola 15-12. The Greyhounds led 4-1 after the first quarter but the Cavaliers scored six goals in the second to lead 7-6 at halftime. Matt Moore had 5 goals for UVA while Kevin Lindley had 4 goals for Loyola. Virginia improves to 3-0 while Loyola falls to 1-1.
