July 3 – Orioles vs. Phillies Preview
The Baltimore Orioles take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener of a two game set. The Orioles enter Tuesday’s game with an MLB-worst 24-59 record while the Phillies enter with a 45-37 record.
Pitching Matchup: Alex Cobb (2-9, 6.75 ERA) vs. Zach Eflin ( 6-2, 3.02 ERA)
Alex Cobb’s 2018 season is not what the Orioles imagined when they gave him a 4 year/$57 million deal in March, as he continues to struggle with a 6.75 ERA. In his last start, Cobb went 4.2 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits against the Mariners.
Zach Eflin is having a terrific season for the Phillies, posting a career low ERA (3.02) and career highs in K/9 (9.05) and WAR (1.6). In his last start, Eflin threw seven shutout innings against the New York Yankees while allowing only four hits. Eflin was fantastic in the month of June, going 5-0 with a 1.76 ERA.
