The Johns Hopkins University women’s volleyball team dropped matches to No. 13 Washington University and No. 3 Trinity (TX) on Sept. 18 at the Trinity Fall Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Johns Hopkins lost to Washington University, 3-1 (25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 25-12), before falling to Trinity (TX), 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21), at the Bell Center. The results moved Johns Hopkins to 3-5 on the season.
The Blue Jays faced two nationally ranked opponents on the opening day of the Trinity Fall Classic. Johns Hopkins extended its first match with a third-set victory over Washington University but fell in four sets. Later, the Blue Jays were swept by Trinity (TX), the third-ranked team in the nation.
Johns Hopkins extends match against Washington University
Washington University took the first two sets, but Johns Hopkins responded with a 25-22 victory in the third set. The Blue Jays built a 23-18 lead before Josephine Kinlan finished the set with consecutive kills. Washington University answered with a 25-12 fourth-set win to close the match.
Ivy Swafford led Johns Hopkins with a career-high 20 kills and four aces against Washington University. The Bears improved to 6-2 with the victory.
Trinity (TX) completes sweep
Third-ranked Trinity (TX) won the opening set, 25-15, and held off Johns Hopkins in the second and third sets. The Blue Jays led 7-5 in the second set after a block by Ivy Swafford and Jordan Price. Annika Anderson’s kill gave Johns Hopkins a 12-11 advantage in the third set, but Trinity responded with six straight points and secured the match.
Emily Overtoom led Johns Hopkins against Trinity (TX) with seven kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Trinity (TX) recorded a .311 hitting percentage, compared with .192 for Johns Hopkins, and moved to 7-1.
