Johns Hopkins University women’s field hockey lost to York, 2-1, in the first overtime Tuesday at Homewood Field in Baltimore. Olivia Miller converted a penalty stroke with 2:08 remaining to give York the victory over fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins.
The loss dropped Johns Hopkins to 4-3 on the season, while York improved to 4-3. The game marked the third consecutive overtime contest and the fourth overtime game overall in the series.
York and Johns Hopkins Exchange First-Half Goals
York opened the scoring at 10:30 of the first quarter when Kate Egan tipped in a crossing pass from Aliza Staub. Johns Hopkins answered 14 minutes later during a penalty corner, as Kaitlin Coward swept a low shot into the cage after a passing sequence involving Sophia Albano, Ada Farmer and Caeli Robinson.
Albano delivered the insert to Farmer, who passed across the top of the circle to Robinson. Robinson then sent a short pass to Coward in the middle of the circle for the tying goal.
Olivia Miller Ends Game on Overtime Penalty Stroke
The teams played scoreless third and fourth quarters before York scored in overtime. With the clock approaching two minutes remaining in the first overtime, Kelbie Linebaugh broke away and drew a penalty stroke.
Miller converted the opportunity for York with 2:08 left, sending a shot into the left side of the cage to end the game. Johns Hopkins outshot York, 19-12, while York held an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Aubrey Kilgore made four saves and Jessica Lapidus made three saves for Johns Hopkins. Maddy Merlack made three saves for York.

Johns Hopkins will open Centennial Conference play at Bryn Mawr on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
