Johns Hopkins University Women’s Field Hockey Falls 1-0 to Swarthmore After Nina Wiggins’ First-Quarter Goal

Johns Hopkins University women’s field hockey fell to Swarthmore, 1-0, in Centennial Conference action Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, in Baltimore. Nina Wiggins scored the game’s only goal for Swarthmore in the first quarter, and the Garnet held Johns Hopkins scoreless the rest of the game.

The loss dropped Johns Hopkins to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Swarthmore improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Swarthmore Scores in the First Quarter

Swarthmore took the lead when Erin Coyle assisted Wiggins on the deciding goal. Wiggins scored to give the Garnet a 1-0 advantage that held through the final three quarters.

Johns Hopkins created a tying opportunity midway through the second quarter on a penalty corner. Josie Sarno made back-to-back saves on attempts by Evie Hamm and An Tran to preserve Swarthmore’s lead.

Sarah Chilton later hit the post with a shot off a penalty corner in the third quarter. Johns Hopkins continued to challenge the Swarthmore defense but could not find an equalizer.

Johns Hopkins Holds Edges in Shots and Corners

Johns Hopkins finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 12-4 edge in penalty corners. The Blue Jays could not convert either advantage into a goal.

Aubrey Kilgore made one save and Jessica Lapidus made two saves for Johns Hopkins. Sarno made seven saves for Swarthmore.

Next Game for Johns Hopkins University Women’s Field Hockey

Johns Hopkins is scheduled to host 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 7 p.m. The Blue Jays are also scheduled to play Williams on Oct. 11 at noon and at McDaniel on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

Johns Hopkins is scheduled to play at Washington College on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The Blue Jays will host Haverford on Oct. 24 at noon.
