Johns Hopkins University Athletics women’s soccer defeated Gettysburg 2-0 on October 7 at Homewood Field in Baltimore after Addi Dauler and Katie Derby scored second-half goals. The No. 22-ranked Blue Jays improved to 8-1-2 overall, 4-1 in the Centennial Conference and extended their winning and shutout streaks to four games.
Dauler Opens Scoring After 60 Scoreless Minutes
Johns Hopkins collected all eight of the game’s first-half shots, but Gettysburg goalkeeper Anna Kavountzis kept the match scoreless by stopping five shots on target. Her first-half saves included attempts from Natalie Kokenda and Lauren Fang.
After more than 60 scoreless minutes, Dauler broke through for her fourth goal of the season. Caroline Marcus assisted the goal, which gave Johns Hopkins a 1-0 lead.
Derby Adds a Second Goal
Gettysburg’s Kristine Squeglia sent a long-range attempt just over the crossbar six minutes after Dauler’s goal. Johns Hopkins then doubled its advantage when Kendall Malmros assisted Katie Derby 13 minutes after the opening goal.
Derby scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. Gettysburg created one late opportunity, but Johns Hopkins goalkeeper Ella Kruntchev made a save on Camryn Rogers with less than seven minutes remaining to preserve the shutout.
Johns Hopkins Moves to 4-1 in Centennial Conference Play
The loss dropped Gettysburg to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Centennial Conference. Johns Hopkins head coach Dan Weiler moved to 98-14-12 at Johns Hopkins since taking over in 2020.
Johns Hopkins will travel to Washington College on October 10 for a Centennial Conference game against the Shorewomen.
