Johns Hopkins University Athletics Men’s Soccer Rolls Past McDaniel 3-0 on Three Second-Half Goals

BALTIMORE, Md. — Johns Hopkins University’s men’s soccer team scored three second-half goals to defeat visiting McDaniel, 3-0, in Centennial Conference action on Sept. 30. The victory moved Johns Hopkins to 7-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play, while McDaniel fell to 6-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.

Johns Hopkins Breaks Through After Halftime

Connor Wilkes opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a penalty kick after Rohan Aggarwal was fouled in the box. The goal marked Wilkes’ first of the season. Gabriel Pirayou doubled the lead in the 67th minute, with Aggarwal and Brendan Listzwan assisting on the play.

Johns Hopkins added its third goal in the 76th minute. Alexander Ball crossed the ball into the box, and a McDaniel defender’s attempted clearance went into the top of the goal.

Johns Hopkins Goalkeeper John Ghanem Records Shutout

Johns Hopkins held a 20-11 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners. Goalkeeper John Ghanem made three saves to record the shutout, while McDaniel goalkeeper Gavin Yartymyk made eight saves.

McDaniel nearly scored 23 seconds into the match when Callen Kleinschmidt attempted a header at the right post, but Ghanem made the save. Ghanem also stopped Quinn Pudloski’s free-kick opportunity in the 25th minute and punched away Jacob Hicks’ lob attempt in the 62nd minute.

Johns Hopkins will visit Gettysburg on Oct. 3 for a Centennial Conference match scheduled to begin at noon.
