Former Johns Hopkins University Athletics men’s lacrosse head coach Dave Pietramla has been elected to the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Pietramla is one of five individuals selected for the class, which will be honored during an induction ceremony and reception Friday, Dec. 11, 2026, in Orlando, Florida.
Keith Bugbee, J.B. Clarke, Jeff Long and Erin Quinn will join Pietramla in the Class of 2026. Mike Waldvogel, who was elected in 2025, also will be recognized during the 2026 programming.
Pietramla Becomes Eighth Johns Hopkins Hall of Fame Coach
Pietramla becomes the eighth individual who served as the Johns Hopkins head coach to earn induction into the IMLCA Hall of Fame. He joins Bob Scott, Henry Ciccarone, Tony Seaman, Howdy Myers, William Schmeisser, Don Zimmerman and Fred Smith among the former Johns Hopkins coaches recognized by the hall.
Pietramla served as the Johns Hopkins head coach from 2001 through 2020 and compiled a 207-93 record. During his tenure, Johns Hopkins made 18 NCAA Tournament appearances, reached seven Final Fours and appeared in four national championship games.
Two National Championships at Johns Hopkins
Johns Hopkins won NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse national championships in 2005 and 2007 under Pietramla. He also guided the Blue Jays to Big Ten Tournament titles in 2015 and 2018 after Johns Hopkins joined the Big Ten in 2015.
Pietramla remains the only person in college lacrosse history to win an NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse championship as both a player and a head coach. His teams also produced seven CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 11 USILA Scholar All-Americans, 67 Academic All-Big Ten selections and seven Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
Pietramla’s Coaching Career
Before and after his Johns Hopkins tenure, Pietramla held several coaching roles. He served as Cornell’s head coach from 1998 through 2000 and worked as the Johns Hopkins defensive coordinator from 1995 through 1997.
Pietramla later served as the defensive coordinator at Syracuse from 2022 through 2024 and has held that position at North Carolina since 2025. He began his coaching career at the Gilman School in 1990 and later coached at Johns Hopkins, Penn and Loyola before becoming the Blue Jays’ defensive coordinator in 1995.
