Joe Ross, Juan Soto, and Gerardo Parra lead Nationals to a 4-1 sweep of Giants; recap: 8/7/19
The Washington Nationals swept the San Francisco Giants 4-1 today for the midday matinee finale, giving the team a 61-53 record. Joe Ross pitched an outstanding six innings in which he gave up only three hits, no runs, and two walks and struck out five batters. Tanner Rainey, Wander Suero, and Daniel Hudson provided excellent relief, despite Hudson giving up the Giants' only run via a Brandon Crawford RBI double.
In the first inning, Juan Soto grounded out to score Trea Turner. In the third, Gerardo Parra hit a three-run home run to secure the lead for the rest of the game. Anthony Rendon was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning, and despite initial pain in the foot area, Rendon later stated that he felt fine after icing the affected area.
The Nationals will face the New York Mets at Citi Field for the weekend. Friday's pitching matchups have yet to be announced.First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. E.T.
