In midst of MLB Draft, Orioles face off with Rangers: 6/4/19 Lineups

The Baltimore Orioles come into tonight’s game with the Texas Rangers having lost 15 of their last 20 games and are on a current two game skid.

The future is bright however, and help is on the way in the coming seasons. Baltimore had the first overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft and took switch-hitting catcher, Adley Rutschman.

Rutschman became the first catcher to be taken first overall in the MLB Draft since Joe Mauer in 2001.

With the first pick in the second round (the 42nd overall pick), the Orioles selected shortstop Gunnar Henderson out of John T. Morgan Academy in Alabama. He is a left-handed hitter who plays strong defense. The Orioles would later draft Stanford outfielder Kyle Stowers with the 71st overall pick.

The first pick in the third round for Baltimore was LSU outfielder Zach Watson. Baseball America rated Watson as the second best collegiate defensive outfielder in the draft.

The Orioles then used their fourth round pick, 108th overall, on shortstop Joey Ortiz of New Mexico State.

Fifth round pick went to Darell Hernaiz, a shortstop from America’s High School in Texas, who will most likely report to the Gulf Coast League.

Help is on the way Orioles fans!
