Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball swept No. 13 Butler County Community College – PA and Anne Arundel Community College in three sets each during a home tri-match in Columbia on Sept. 26, 2026. The Dragons defeated Butler County 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 before beating Anne Arundel 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.
The victory over Butler County marked Howard Community College’s first win against the opponent since 2017. The two sweeps improved the Dragons’ record to 9-3 overall and 7-2 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference play.
Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Sweeps No. 13 Butler County
Howard stayed close with Butler County in the opening set, pulling away to win 25-23. Butler County built a six-point lead in the second set, but the Dragons rallied to take it 25-21.
Howard controlled the third set, leading by as many as nine points and closing out the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 victory. Zyon Austin led the team with 11 kills and 22 digs, while Yusra Arenas contributed eight kills and eight digs.
Amelia Thomas added seven kills and five blocks. Abigail Nirola finished with 28 assists and two aces, Kira King added 16 digs and two aces, and Diana Feria recorded 11 digs.
Dragons Complete Sweep Against Anne Arundel
Anne Arundel opened each set with an early lead, but Howard responded each time. The Dragons won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-15, then overcame another six-point deficit to take the third set 25-20.
Austin led again with 12 kills, four aces, and 13 digs. Arenas added nine kills, and Thomas recorded five kills, three aces, and four blocks.
Nirola had 30 assists, eight digs, and three aces. Toriana Curry contributed four kills and six blocks, while King added 15 digs as the Dragons completed their second sweep of the day.
Next Match for Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball
Howard Community College will face Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. The match will follow their two-sweep performance.
