Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Gets Eight-Kill, 23-Dig Effort From Zyon Austin in 3-1 Win

Howard Community College women’s volleyball defeated Carroll Community College 3-1 on the road in Westminster, Maryland, earning its third consecutive victory to open the season. Zyon Austin led Howard Community College with eight kills, two assists, four blocks and 23 digs.

Howard Community College won the first set 25-14 before Carroll Community College answered with a 25-20 victory in the second. The Dragons responded with 25-12 and 25-21 wins in the final two sets.

Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Controls First and Third Sets

Howard Community College controlled the opening set, and Austin delivered one of the match’s key defensive plays. She made a diving dig before sprinting across the floor to save an errant set, helping create a Howard Community College kill.

Carroll Community College opened the second set with a 4-0 run and held on for the win. Howard Community College regained control in the third set, with Toriana Curry and Amelia Thomas contributing strong blocking efforts in the 25-12 victory.

Howard Community College Closes Out Four-Set Victory

Howard Community College built an early lead in the fourth set behind four consecutive aces from Kira King. Carroll Community College rallied, but head coach Jailyn Ivey called a timeout before Howard Community College regained momentum and secured the 25-21 win.

Austin recorded a late kill to give Howard Community College match point, and a Carroll Community College attack error ended the match. King finished with 36 digs and three assists, including five aces in the final set.

Yusra Arenas added eight kills, two blocks and three digs from the right side. Emma Nguyen recorded seven kills, two aces, four blocks and 12 digs while leading Howard Community College with 32 total attacks.

Amelia Thomas contributed four kills and seven blocks, while Toriana Curry posted four kills, nine blocks and four digs. Vivian Gonzalez added three kills, three blocks and four digs.

Abigail Nirola led Howard Community College with 15 assists and added three aces and five digs. Diana Feria supplied 12 assists and 12 digs as Howard Community College secured its third consecutive win.

Howard Community College women’s volleyball received a balanced performance in the road victory. Austin led the team in multiple statistical categories, while King provided defensive production and Howard Community College controlled the net with contributions from Curry, Thomas and other front-row players.

The victory marked Howard Community College’s third straight win to open the season. The program competes in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.
