Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Falls to Frederick Community College 3-0

The Howard Community College women’s volleyball team fell to host Frederick Community College in three sets Tuesday in Frederick, Maryland. Frederick won 25-23, 25-19 and 28-26 in a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference match.

Frederick Community College Holds Off Howard in Three Sets

Howard Community College stayed within striking distance throughout the opening set before Frederick Community College secured a 25-23 victory. The Cougars pulled away late in the second set, winning 25-19.

The third set was the closest of the match. Howard Community College pushed Frederick Community College beyond the standard 25-point finish, but Frederick eventually earned a 28-26 victory to complete the sweep.

Zyon Austin led Howard Community College with 17 kills on 42 attacks, one service ace and one solo block. Austin also finished with a team-high 19 points.

Diana Feria added six kills and 10 digs, while Toriana Curry contributed four kills and three digs. Abigail Nirola recorded 28 assists, two service aces and seven digs, and Kira King led Howard Community College with 13 digs while adding two service aces.

Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Team Statistics

Howard Community College finished with 32 kills on 95 attacks and a .137 hitting percentage. The Dragons also recorded five service aces, three blocks and 46 digs.

Frederick Community College finished with 40 kills and a .139 hitting percentage. The loss dropped Howard Community College to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in conference play, while Frederick Community College improved to 8-4 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Howard Community College will next participate in a tri-match in Cumberland, Maryland, hosted by Allegany College of Maryland with Cecil College joining the event.

Howard Community College remained competitive throughout the match, especially in the third set, but Frederick Community College completed the sweep. Austin led the Dragons’ offense with 17 kills, while Nirola and King contributed across the service and defensive categories.
