Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Defeats Chesapeake College 3-1 in Chesapeake Tri-Match Opener

Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball defeated Chesapeake College 3-1 on Sept. 24, 2026, in the opening match of the Chesapeake Tri-Match in Wye Mills, Maryland. Chesapeake College won the first set 27-25, but Howard Community College answered with wins of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13.

Zyon Austin led Howard Community College with a season-high 17 kills and 29 digs. Emma Nguyen added 11 kills and eight digs, while Toriana Curry recorded 10 kills without an error and five blocks.

Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Responds After Opening-Set Loss

Howard Community College recorded double-digit kills in each of the final three sets after dropping the opening set. The team committed eight total errors. Their most efficient stretch came in the third set, when they posted a 15-1 kill-to-error ratio.

Abigail Nirola directed the offense with 38 assists, 14 digs and six aces. Three Howard Community College players recorded double-digit kills, while five players reached double figures in digs.

Howard Community College finished with 121 total digs. Kira King led the team with 28, Diana Feria contributed 22, and Cailyn Harvey added 14 digs and three aces.

Curry and Yusra Arenas each recorded multiple blocks, with Curry tallying five and Arenas four. The defensive effort helped Howard Community College close the match with three consecutive set victories after Chesapeake College took the opener.
