Howard Community College men’s soccer lost to No. 5 CCBC Essex, 5-0, on Thursday night, September 17, in Rosedale, Maryland. CCBC Essex led 3-0 at halftime and scored twice more in the second half to complete the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) victory.
The loss dropped Howard Community College to 5-1-1 on the season. The game marked a rematch of the previous season’s Region 20 championship game, according to the official recap.
CCBC Essex Builds Three-Goal Halftime Lead
Dony Mendoza opened the scoring for CCBC Essex in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal. Noel Calix scored one minute later, and Zen Shimono added another goal before halftime to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage.
Shimono scored again in the second half with an assist from JP Alonso. Mendoza added his second goal of the game, assisted by Calix, as CCBC Essex extended its lead to 5-0.
Howard Community College Creates Scoring Chances
Howard Community College goalkeeper Alejandro Dealvarez made eight saves against the CCBC Essex attack. Jacob Peace made multiple saves for the Knights during the first half as the Dragons looked for a response.
Yeabsira Tesfaye led Howard Community College with five shots. Nelson Hernandez recorded four shots, including three on goal, while the Dragons finished without a goal.
Howard Community College recorded six shots on goal compared with 13 for CCBC Essex. The Knights maintained the shutout through the second half.
