Hood College’s women’s volleyball team defeated Albright 3-2 on September 29 at the Ronald J. Volpe Athletic Center in Frederick, Md., earning its second MAC Commonwealth win. Hood improved to 2-1 in conference play, while Albright fell to 0-2.
Hood wins five-set conference match
Hood won the first set 26-24 before Albright answered with a 25-19 victory in the second. Albright then took the third set 26-24, but Hood responded with a 25-23 fourth-set win to force the deciding set. Hood won the fifth set 15-13. The Blazers led 9-4 before Albright moved ahead 10-9. Hood closed the match with back-to-back kills from Cam Madden and Sami Betley before an Albright error ended the set.
Tara Gosney leads Hood’s attack
Tara Gosney led Hood with 17 kills. Maria Ricketts added 24 assists and 15 digs for the Blazers. Katie Goddard and Cam Madden each recorded three service aces, while Janiyah Thornton had three blocks. Hood held a 13-12 edge in service aces, and the teams finished tied with 10 blocks apiece.
Alexis Akwara recorded 15 kills and four blocks for Albright, while Paige Lipp posted 39 assists.
Upcoming schedule
Hood returns to Woodsboro Bank Arena on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. for a nonconference match against Roanoke College.
