Hood College Women’s Volleyball Loses to Neumann University in Five-Set Conference Opener

The Hood College women’s volleyball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play with a 3-2 loss to Neumann University on Sept. 15 in Frederick, Md. Hood College won the first two sets before Neumann University rallied to take the final three.

Neumann University Rallies for Five-Set Win

Neumann University won the match 19-25, 11-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 15-11. Hood College built a 2-0 lead by winning the opening sets, but Neumann University forced a deciding set with victories in the third and fourth.

Neumann University then secured the fifth set 15-11 to complete the comeback and open conference play with a victory. The result moved Hood College to an overall record of 0-10 and 0-1 in conference play, while Neumann University improved to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Hood College Women’s Volleyball Leaders

Cam Madden and Isabelle Garrett led Hood College with 11 kills each. Maria Ricketts recorded 26 assists and six aces, while Janiyah Thornton finished with five blocks.

Kendall Massey added 12 digs for Hood College. The Blazers held advantages in aces, 15-7, and digs, 57-52, but Neumann University won the final three sets.

Hood College’s Next Match

Hood College is scheduled to travel to St. Mary’s City on Sept. 19 for a tri-match. The Blazers are scheduled to play St. Mary’s College of Maryland at 11 a.m. and Randolph College at 1 p.m.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Hood College established early control by winning the first two sets, but Neumann University responded by taking the next three. The Blazers’ lead in aces and digs was not enough to secure the conference-opening victory.
