Hood College men’s soccer fell 1-0 to Elizabethtown on Sept. 23 at Thomas Athletic Field in Frederick, Maryland, after Will Withall scored the only goal in the 54th minute. The Middle Atlantic Conference match remained scoreless through halftime before Elizabethtown broke through in the second half.
Elizabethtown Breaks Scoreless Match
Hood created the first opportunity just over a minute into the match when Aidan Wright sent a shot high and to the right of the target. Hood continued to pressure early, earning corner kicks in the eighth and 10th minutes.
Adam Labows kept the match scoreless in the 26th minute with a save on a shot from Caba Alvarez. Neither team scored during the opening 45 minutes, sending the match into halftime tied 0-0.
Hood threatened again after the break when Chito Alvarez forced a save from Elizabethtown goalkeeper Logan Sumner in the 49th minute. Five minutes later, Elizabethtown capitalized on its chance when Withall scored on the third attempt of a sequence that included a blocked shot by Caba Alvarez and a save by Labows.
Hood Presses for Equalizer
Wright nearly pulled Hood level in the 62nd minute, but Sumner saved his shot on goal. Austin Heffner tested Sumner in the 73rd minute, and Timmy Hill put a shot on target in the 88th minute before Sumner made his fourth save to preserve the shutout.
Wright finished with three shots, including one on goal, while Cristian Topovich also recorded three shots for Hood. Caba Alvarez led Elizabethtown with five shots, including one on goal, and Sumner made four saves.
The match was held during Hood’s Faculty Appreciation Night. Elizabethtown improved to 4-2-2 with the victory.
