Game Time: No. 14 Maryland welcomes Harvard for home opener

WELCOME TO THE SEASON OPENER for the 2023-2024 Maryland Women’s Basketball team. Maryland has won 14 straight home openers.

Looking to build on a successful run into the elite eight run. This current Terp’s team looked good in their preseason matchups.

This season will see a different Maryland team without Diamond Miller and Abby Meyers as they were WNBA first-round drafts last season.

Looking at this Maryland team, Brenda Frese has this team ready to compete. This roster looks strong, especially with a recruiting class that could make some noise this season.

Maryland will play the 2022-2023 Ivy League tournament runner-up Harvard.

The Keys to Victory!

Know the Opponent

  1. Harvard Women’s Basketball has promise. They finished 20-12 under head coach Carrie Moore as she led them to their first 20-game win season. They faced Princeton where they lost in the championship game.
  2. Harvard’s strength is shooting the basketball. They led their league in three areas. 1. Field Goal Percentage (45) 2. Three Point Percentage (37), and three. Free Throw Percentage (72)
  3. Harvard can ensure everyone touches the ball on the offensive side of the ball.
  4. Who will be their leader now McKenzie Forbes is no longer with the team?

The Preseason was just the beginning

Coach Frese has her work cut out for her with the starting lineup but, how will Maryland ensure everyone gets an opportunity to score on a nightly basis?

We know that Shyanne Sellers will be the point guard of the offense. Who is behind Shyanne after that remains unclear currently. While Faith Masonius, Lavender Briggs, and Brinae Alexander have shown that they are significant scorers with different skill sets, it will be interesting to see as the season progresses.

Let’s Once and For All Kill a Narrative

As the writer of this article, Brenda Frese is a top 10 WBB head coach. Coach Frese will get the best out of her players. This notion that she does not play her freshman is inaccurately incorrect. Due to a bias and narrative recently created against Coach Frese. The number of ACC and B1G freshmen of the year would like to have a say.

This season I expect the freshman to get opportunities. This freshman class has the making of being a special group.

Nathan’s Keys

  1. As the great Clark Kellog once said “Share the Sugar” I am curious to watch how terps offensively get each other going
  2. Make Harvard work for their shots. As stated, Harvard loves to shoot the ball. We should have some defensive specials cooked up.
  3. Get to the bench early with confidence.
  4. Have fun and get the W
