Frostburg State University Women’s Rugby team earned its first-ever win over Bowdoin with a 20-17 victory on Oct. 3, 2026, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Aissatou Medley scored the go-ahead try in the second period, and Frostburg State’s defense held Bowdoin scoreless afterward.
Frostburg State University Women’s Rugby team rallies from 14-5 deficit
Bowdoin opened the scoring with a try and conversion to take a 7-0 lead. Senior LJ Jordan answered with Frostburg State’s first try, cutting the deficit to 7-5.
Bowdoin extended its advantage to 14-5 before sophomore Izzy Sage scored a try late in the first half. Frostburg State entered halftime trailing 14-10.
Bowdoin added a penalty kick three minutes into the second period to move ahead 17-10. Five minutes later, junior Natalie Allen scored from a scrum to bring Frostburg State within 17-15.
Aissatou Medley scores the decisive try
After neither team scored for the next 17 minutes, Frostburg State moved upfield to create the winning opportunity. Jordan passed to sophomore Aissatou Medley while falling to the ground, and Medley ran around the right side to score the go-ahead try and put the Bobcats ahead 20-17.
Frostburg State’s defense protected the lead the rest of the way. The victory improved Frostburg State to 2-2 on the season, while Bowdoin fell to 1-2.
Frostburg State University Women’s Rugby team schedule
Frostburg State was scheduled to face Long Island on Oct. 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Kutztown University. The team was also scheduled to face Mount St. Mary’s on Oct. 24 at noon and West Chester on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
