Frostburg State University Women’s Rugby Drops 58-5 Match at Davenport

The Frostburg State University women’s rugby team dropped a 58-5 decision at Davenport University on Saturday morning in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Davenport took control early, scoring two tries and one conversion in the opening six minutes to establish a 12-0 lead. The Panthers carried a 36-0 advantage into halftime.

With the loss, Frostburg State fell to 1-1 on the season, while Davenport improved to 3-0.

Davenport Builds Early Lead

Although the Frostburg State Bobcats had possessions during the opening half, they were unable to turn them into points. Davenport extended its lead to 19-0 about 10 minutes after taking the early advantage, then controlled the final 20 minutes of the half with two sets of quick-fire tries. Those scores pushed the Panthers’ lead to 36-0 at the break.

Frostburg State Scores Late

The first 10 minutes of the second half featured back-and-forth possession before Davenport was the first to score. Frostburg State pushed deep into Panther territory but could not finish the attack. Davenport added another try about 10 minutes later to extend its lead to 46-0. Two more Panthers’ tries increased the lead to 58-0 before Frostburg State scored its only try in extra time, working the ball around the right side for the final score.

Frostburg State Women’s Rugby Returns Home

The Bobcats are scheduled to return home on Saturday, September 26, to face Princeton at 10 a.m. The match follows Frostburg State’s first loss of the season.
