Frostburg State University women’s field hockey opened the 2026 season with a 6-2 loss to Slippery Rock on Thursday, September 3, in Slippery Rock, Pa. Slippery Rock led 6-0 after three periods before Frostburg State scored twice in the fourth.
Slippery Rock Takes Control Early
Slippery Rock led 1-0 after the first period and extended its advantage to 4-0 by halftime. Lucy Hutchinson scored twice, while Grace Williams also scored two goals for Slippery Rock. Keila Schutte-Hanekom and Coral Piramo added one goal apiece.
Jenna Yazzetti made her first collegiate start for Frostburg State and stopped multiple Slippery Rock shots. Senior Morgan Sparks also made a defensive clearance off the line during the opening period to keep the deficit at one.
Frostburg State Scores Twice in Fourth Period
Frostburg State created several chances in the fourth period, but Leah Riegling made saves for Slippery Rock. After Riegling left the game, goalkeeper substitute Sam Black denied a penalty stroke.
Freshman Alayna Enoff scored Frostburg State’s first goal of the season and the first goal of her collegiate career, with Caroline Earnshaw providing the assist. Rachel Young added the second goal on an assist from Makenna Buffington to produce the final score.
Frostburg State finished with 10 shots on goal, while Slippery Rock recorded 16. Frostburg State begins the season 0-1, and Slippery Rock moves to 1-0.

Frostburg State was scheduled to remain on the road at Wingate on Saturday, September 5. The game was listed for an 8:30 a.m. start.
