Frostburg State University women’s field hockey opened their 2026 season with a 6-2 loss to Slippery Rock on Thursday, September 3, in Slippery Rock, Pa. Slippery Rock jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three quarters before Frostburg State scored twice in the fourth quarter.
Slippery Rock Takes Control Early
Slippery Rock held a 1-0 lead after the first quarter and extended its advantage to 4-0 by halftime. Lucy Hutchinson scored twice, while Grace Williams also netted two goals for Slippery Rock. Keila Schutte-Hanekom and Coral Piramo added one goal apiece.
Freshman Jenna Yazzetti made her first collegiate start for Frostburg State and stopped multiple Slippery Rock shots. Senior Morgan Sparks made a crucial defensive clearance off the line during the opening quarter, keeping the deficit at one.
Frostburg State Scores Twice in Fourth Quarter
Frostburg State created several chances in the fourth quarter, but Leah Riegling made key saves for Slippery Rock. After Riegling left the game, substitute goalkeeper Sam Black denied a penalty stroke.
Freshman Alayna Enoff scored Frostburg State’s first goal of the season and the first of her collegiate career, with an assist from Caroline Earnshaw. Rachel Young added the second goal on an assist from Makenna Buffington, producing the final 6-2 score.
Frostburg State finished the game with 10 shots on goal, while Slippery Rock recorded 16. Frostburg State begins the season 0-1, while Slippery Rock moves to 1-0.
