GLENVILLE, W. Va. — Frostburg State defeated Glenville State 56-7 on the road Saturday, Oct. 10, behind Peyton Murphy’s record-setting performance in his first collegiate start. Murphy completed 19 of 21 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns while setting Frostburg’s program single-game completion percentage record at 90.5%.
Frostburg State improved to 3-3 with the victory, while Glenville State fell to 1-5. The Bobcats led 21-7 after the first quarter, 35-7 at halftime and 42-7 after three quarters.
Frostburg State Builds a 35-7 Halftime Lead
Murphy connected with Caleb Barnes and Tra’Shaun Timmons for all four of his touchdown passes. Barnes and Timmons combined for nine catches, 182 yards and four receiving touchdowns, with each player scoring twice.
KJ Smothers led Frostburg State’s rushing attack with 84 yards and two touchdowns. Brett Patterson and Joe Hayes also scored rushing touchdowns, while Frostburg State finished with 566 total yards, including 295 passing yards and 271 rushing yards.
Frostburg State opened the scoring when Murphy found Barnes for a 14-yard touchdown pass. Glenville State answered with a 24-yard touchdown pass from JD Sherrod to Kyree Bunny, but Murphy and Timmons quickly restored the Bobcats’ lead with a 49-yard touchdown connection.
Murphy and Barnes then connected for a 64-yard touchdown, giving Frostburg State a 21-7 lead after the first quarter. Smothers added touchdown runs of 13 and 40 yards in the second quarter, extending the advantage to 35-7 before halftime.
Bobcats Control the Second Half
Timmons caught his second touchdown pass in the third quarter, a 13-yard completion that made the score 42-7. Patterson and Hayes added fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns to complete the scoring.
Glenville State totaled 212 yards, including 150 passing yards and 62 rushing yards. Frostburg State converted 11 of 14 third downs and its only fourth-down attempt, while Glenville State went 2-for-10 on third down and 0-for-1 on fourth down.
Ramal West intercepted a pass for Frostburg State. Zion Bryson recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble, while Osman Fanny made four tackles, including one for loss.
Frostburg State Football Schedule
Frostburg State is scheduled to return to Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17, to host Charleston (WV) at 1 p.m. The remaining schedule includes home games against Wheeling on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m., Delta State on Oct. 31 at noon and Fairmont State on Nov. 14 at noon.
The Bobcats are also scheduled to play at West Virginia State on Nov. 7 at noon. Frostburg State enters its next game with a 3-3 record.

Barnes, Timmons and Smothers supplied the primary production around Murphy, while Frostburg State’s defense held Glenville State to 62 rushing yards. The Bobcats will next host Charleston (WV) on Oct. 17.
