Frederick Keys Weekly Recap 5/9-5/15

After an impressive week last week, the Frederick Keys are still 4 games below .500. A good week will put the Keys above .500 which is ideal for the Keys at this point in the season. Here is a recap from each of the games this week.

Game 1: 5/9/18: Lynchburg 4 Frederick 3

The starter, Ofelky Peralta, allows all the runs in this game in just 2 innings of work, allowing 4 runs (3 ER) 3 hitters had multi hit games for the Keys, including Randolph Gassaway, Daniel Fajardo, and Wilson Garcia. Chris Clare gets the only RBI in the ball game with his RBI double in the 4th.

Game 2: 5/10/18: Potomac 14 Frederick 3

Not the best outing from John Peluffo who goes 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs. The bullpen was not much better with Steven Klimek allowing 4 earned runs as well and Francisco Jimenez allowing 6 earned runs in just 1.2 innings of work.

The offense was mostly silent also. The Keys scored off an error, a bases loaded walk, and a solo home run.

Game 3: 5/11/18: Potomac 4 Frederick 3

Alex Wells doesn’t pitch deep enough into the ball game to earn the quality start, however he kept the offense in the ball game. He lasted 4.2 innings and 3 earned runs. James Teague got the loss allowing the go ahead run in the 8th inning. Wilson Garcia had a solid day at the plate going 2-4 with a RBI and a walk. Ryan McKenna drove in a run also.

Game 4: 5/12/18: Potomac 7 Frederick 4

Ryan McKenna accounts for all 4 runs the Keys scored… all 4 scored off of McKenna’s 2 home runs. Christian Alvarado goes 6 innings allowing 5 earned runs, which is not the start the Keys were looking for. Trowbridge and Erwin also allow a run each. McKenna accounted for 2 out of the 6 hits the team had.

Game 5: 5/13/18: Potomac 6 Frederick 8

Brian Gonzalez comes 1 inning short of earning a quality start but just goes 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs. Ryan McKenna once again had a big day at the plate going 4-5 with a RBI and a walk. Alejandro Juvier also has a solid day, going 3-4 with a RBI. The Keys finally get a win. The player of the game is Ryan McKenna.

Game 6: 5/15/18 Frederick 12 Lynchburg 13

The Keys get a big day out of the offense but the pitching and defense didn’t keep up. Ofelky Peralta has really slowed down after starting the year off hot, today he allowed 7 earned runs in just 3 innings of work. He walked 7 and only allowed 4 hits. His main weakness is walking batters. Lucas Humpal took the loss today allowing 6 runs but only 4 earned. Reyes and Clare both committed errors which became the deciding factor in that game.

The Keys go back to what they were doing the week before last week. They do the opposite of what they did last week and now must win games the next few weeks before they get way too far out of the division race.
